The brief

What it had to do.

Well Sparked is an electrical contractor in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, working across domestic, commercial and rural jobs weighted about equally. Three audiences who want different proof, one site, and no appetite for a content management system to keep fed.

So the job is narrow, and worth stating plainly: make it obvious which of the three kinds of work you are looking at, make the emergency number reachable in one tap, and be straight about the call-out fee before anyone dials. Everything else on the site is secondary to those three.

The build

How it is built.

Static Astro, no CMS and no admin login. One person edits this site, perhaps twice a year, and would rather ring us than log in — so there is nothing to keep patched, nothing to pay a monthly fee for, and nothing to be broken into.

Enquiries hand off to the quoting tool the business already runs rather than to a form of our own. A second inbox is a second place for a job to go missing, and the one they have works.

On a phone, a tap-to-call bar stays on screen. Emergency traffic arrives one-handed, at night, from someone who is not reading — and the after-hours charge sits next to every one of those buttons in full, rather than on a terms page nobody reaches.

Decisions

  1. 01

    No CMS

The alternative was a login nobody wanted and a stack to maintain for two edits a year. Static output removed a monthly cost, an attack surface and a thing to remember.

  2. 02

    One handoff, not two

Quotes go to the tool the business already uses. Adding our own contact form would have split enquiries across two inboxes, which is how a job gets missed.

  3. 03

    The fee, up front

The after-hours call-out charge is stated beside every emergency button. It costs a few calls and saves every one of them being an argument later.

  4. 04

    Three doors, not one

Domestic, commercial and rural each get a page and equal billing in the navigation. Weighting one of them would have quietly lost the other two.
